Default SC lakes Map for Lowrance HDS12 Gen 3

Bought a boat with a 12 and 7 HDS. Doesn't have any SD card in them. 2 Questions. Which is better Lowrance or Navionics? And can you buy a used one or better to just go with new ones. I bought a Triton TX 18 camo with the Yamaha 115 four stroke I have owned two motors in my life a 50 horse Mercury and a 25 Horse go devil. I'm not new to fishing but new to doing it out of a boat. Just need a little guidance if you care to offer it up. Thanks.

Get the navionics hot map plus platinum-east.

I think it's about $150 new online. I'm not sure where you would find it local.

Also you only need one card if the units are connected by ethernet cable.

    Also update both units.

Second on the Hot Maps. 1' contours on major lakes is pretty nice. Base maps are ok but I'd spend the extra for the chip.

I hear the Lowramce C-map update is coming out shortly with the latest mapping around the state. I think if you already have one, you get free updates.

What does the base map look like? You would think those would have a pretty good map already.

They are preloaded in most unit. Some have the Genisis map and some have an older base map. They are fine just not as detailed on depth.
