    Default Sick Boy

My 2 1/2 year old lab has been throwing up since yesterday morning and through the night continuing this morning. He's very weak and lethargic. Probably thrown up around 20 times. He's on his way to the vet now.

He won't eat and any water he drinks he throws up. I've never seen anything like this in a dog.

Do dogs get sick like humans? Like a stomach bug. Or has he possibly ingested something toxic?

Any ideas what could be going on?

He chews on things but has never been one to ingest socks or clothing, etc... That's never been an issue.

I don't but my wife did buy some rawhide chews the other day. That's the only thing different that's been introduced to him. I thought about the possibility of that being the issue.

Without seeing the dog and working it up, this gets my vote.

Edit to add: This is just a generalized statement and I am not attacking anyone... If your dog vomits more than one time or has multiple GI symptoms and is not acting right (ADR-aint doing right) the sooner you get to the vet, the better the outcome. Don’t wait days to take your pups in fellas.

Prayers for your pup. Let us know what causes the blockage.

Sorry to hear that. Gonna cost some dough, but more times than not there is a high success rate. I lean towards the rawhide. I used to give them to my dog but as soon as it got to the point where he had worn it down enough to him being able to swallow it, I always took them away.

Damn, really sorry to hear this, but as soon as you mentioned rawhide chews that's where my vote went.

It cost me $700 almost 30 years ago to learn that dogs do NOT digest leather/rawhide. If it's not small enough to pass through, it will obstruct. If you're lucky, and it's large enough to stay in their stomach, there's a chance they'll throw it up and you'll 'just' deal with the pancreas going bonkers (which was the case with my BLF).

Best of luck to your pup... and your wallet!

Happened to my parents black lab. She eats every damn thing. They said they thought it was from acorns. She spent about a week at the vet.

Get them to stitch his stomach to keep it from turning as he gets older.

He's out of surgery and it went well. It was a pacifier he swallowed that was left around from a visit from my sister in law. Not happy about this.

Didn't really need another reason to dislike her as I have plenty but oh well.
