Good job! Being small and coiled up, my pattern would have vaporized him! I never let a poisonous snake pass.

I think another member on here told me once you hunted below Kirksey, near Mt. Vernon.
If so, that’s where I found the snake

I carry a rifle and shotgun when hunting solo. Jake was in the process of coming back across the creek to me and could have been quickly right up on him so I eliminated him with the most effective weapon.

OK, that point will be redeemed. I've shot snakes when there was imminent danger of the dogs getting to him before I could gain control of them.

Still a bit hazy on carrying a shotgun while squirrel hunting though, unless you're <12 years old. I'm going to assume it's for dog training purposes and give back that point but on a probationary status.

NO the purpose of carrying a shotgun squirrel hunting is to kill squirrels..

Yep. If they had the temperament of watersnakes, I would have been bitten a few times. They are gentlemen snakes.

Real squirrel hunters carry a shotgun and .22, I assure you both are needed.

As far as rattle snakes, last year in Montana, on top of a south facing knoll we were walking up on rattlers every 40ft. Reminded me of something from Indiana Jones and I didn’t think I was walking out without getting bit

147 22s, 17s, shotguns, grenades, air strikes. They all die the same.

A thread about a rattlesnake turns into a squirrel hunting pissing contest and it wasn’t even my doing
