It's a combination of poor shooting, poor judge of distance and an unwillingness to let birds work. All too often I see guys blasting away at the first swing which is often times at the fringes of the spread.

And what they don't realize is they are screwing another group that may be trying to work another flight of birds.

I reached out to the biologists last year before our hunt at the cape and was assured that the gators would not be a problem. We walked in that morning to the "pool" that the tech informed us the ducks were using and were welcomed with no less than 4 sets of red eyes. I didn't let the dog get far from me much that day.

People need to stop putting in for these hunts. They all suck and are completely dangerous! You be better off going to Arkansas

Last one we went on we shot 8 greenheads and a gadwall drake and i think we shot 13 shells total. Guys behind us shot 40 something times and had one summer duck

There is a ton of information to be gleaned from your post if one knows how to read between the lines.

I hunted it this past Jan 2. Get there a little early and the biologist will show you some spots in your block on the aerial map. Definitely be willing to move. It was 60 degrees with thick fog last year so bring some water and damn sure bring some bug spray. The mosquitoes were no joke. Don’t bring a ton of gear to weigh you down.

    Nope.

We went through the same thing it was going to be up in the 60s so we didn't bring a dog. We had a few eyes around us, all small, every time we stopped you heard the chirping. Never saw any that were large, not saying they weren't there.

I hunted the Cape Friday and my biggest mistake was not bringing a thermacell or bug spray.

I have many hundreds of mosquito bites.

Like any other hunt a jerk string or something to create ripples can be a difference maker.

I was passing around bug spray, I guess you were not around at the time.

Folks I'd stay away from these draw hunts. The mud will give a healthy man a heart attack. The bugs are so bad it just makes it no fun at all. And the gators holly cow. They are protected so they grow BIG. Saw at least a dozen 10-12 footers.

A duck just isn't worth it.

People daydream about having draw hunts as profound as Ghetto's.
