    Default FIXD Scan Tool

Has anyone ever tried this gizmo, and does it do the basic job of diagnostics?

No, I wouldn’t use it to necessarily replace a good mechanic, but it’s good to have some idea of what you’re headed into before opening your wallet on recommendations from a mechanic you may not know.

I realize that and wish he were closer, but I can’t be driving to Cola/Lexington, etc, for everything that pops up. I’d love it if he had a shop up in this area that followed his principles of operation.

I didn’t realize until I looked at a whole page of these scan tools that the cheaper ones are specific to certain problem areas, or so it appears. And that makes sense.

Unfortunately, the problem I’m chasing right now is an electrical one on a ‘93 Camry, and even writing diagrams are tough to find (free ones).

You will be hard pressed to find any scan tool that will fit your needs on a PRE OBD II vehicle (older than a 1996)

That's pretty much what I've determined, but fortunately I found a site that gave me the technique to read the diagnostic codes from my wife's Camry.

I've been able to figure out that the four intermittent issues she's been having are all on the same fuse - the Key Interlock Solenoid, the Cigar(ette) Lighter, the Radio and the Clock. Ironically, they all either work, or don't work, at the same time. I wouldn't expect them to be wired in series, but I would think that's the only way that a loose(?) wire/ground on one would affect all four at the same time. Or am I missing something? The problem is in getting to the circuits to check out every friggin' wire for continuity without taking the whole dash and console out. If there's an easier way, I'd appreciate the tip.

    Thanks.
