Guys, I'm not looking for any secret places, just an honest yes or no. Are there any opportunities for duck hunting on public land within 2 hours of Darlington? I'm new to the area, in my 50's with family, work out of town Monday through Friday, and don't want to waste time scouting if there isn't any reason to. Again, just looking for simple yes or no, but feel free to PM with any additional info.

Yes, but don't get any thoughts of having big flocks of greenheads coming into your decoys. It aint happen'n here in SC. You better set yourself up to be satisfied with getting your two Wood Ducks and be happy.

well put squatty, throw in the occasional teal, ringneck and maybe even a mallard or two a year, and that about sums up S.C. hunting.

If memory serves me correctly, Big D is from up north, (MN it seems) that recently moved to the area with work. He randomly saw the info regarding the last FF workday, thought it a worthwile cause to support and drove to Belle Grove from Hartsville to sweat his ass off.

Big D, if you are that guy I am thinking about, you have a spot in my boat this year if you are so inclined.

Regardless, there are plenty of public waters around Hartsville...honestly, just get out and go. Even if it turns out to be just a boat ride...it is time well spent.

We get plenty of woodies, local and migratory. But with the numbers like they were on the ponds this year, with some luck and a little weather you never know. Contact some folks at the DNR...I hear the state purchased a nice piece of land near the Pee Dee river that is open for public hunting. Loaded with turkeys and deer too!

BB, thats me. I'll take you up on that hunt, any weekend. Everyone busted their butts on that workday, but it was well worth it. Look forward to the next one.
