Coroner: S.C. farm employee dead after grain silo accident

    December 10, 2019 at 5:23 PM EST - Updated December 10 at 5:23 PM

MONETTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Saluda County Coroner’s Office says a 67-year-old man died in a grain silo accident Tuesday morning.

Coroner Keith Turner says the accident happened around 7:25 a.m. at the Columbia Farms on Columbia Highway North in Monetta.

Turner says the employee, identified as Miguel Angel Olvera-Perez, was working in the grain silo and got caught in an auger.

It took four hours for officials to recover his body.

His body has been sent to Newberry for an autopsy.

I haven't heard any details yet, but I'm sure I will. I wonder if it was a sweep or one of the intermediate doors. Both scare the hell out of me.

When, or if, I have my own grain elevator I'd love to have all paddle sweeps.

Workers comp is going to require it and also to prove he didn’t have a heart attacking and pass naturally before being ingested by an auger

Dammit, democrats going to outlaw grain silos now. Seriously, I cannot imagine much worse ways to go that drowning in grain or being twisted apart by an auger. God's Peace to his family. MG

It’s an easy fix really. Don’t go in a grain elevator. And then for sure don’t refer to it as an “accident”.

    pilo - latin for hair
    erection - well, you know

Piloerection is when something makes your hair stand up.
