Default Les Baer vs Wilson Combat 1911

I love my 1911s and have Colts and Kimbers but have the itch for a custom.
Either a Wilson Combat or a Les Baer.
Leaning toward Wilson, I like the finish on them.
Thinking when you enter this price range, not too much difference
    Any thoughts or experiences?

My opinion, Les Baer. I think they are more hand fitted than the Wilsons. The Les Baer's lock up a lot tighter than the Wilson's, and are less monies.

If you want to shoot some of the Les Baer's, I know where 3 are that we can shoot.

Take a look at Jacob Grey. Built in Columbia. I like mine.

    I would buy a Baer over a Wilson. $1000 less +/-.

Wilson's pistols have slipped IMHO ( for what you will pay). I would also look at Ed Brown. My Executive Elite is a gorgeous pistol.

My Baer PII has been a workhorse. Accurate and reliable. Whatever you decide, get a 5" 1911. Nighthawk evolved from a bunch of Wilson's gunsmiths who left and started their own shop. Equally as expensive as a Wilson.. there is a line of expense versus return on investment. For me, It's Brown or Baer. No need to spend more.

If your're going to go this route, I personally think Ed Brown is the best.

There is a damn nice TRP in the Trading post... For the $$$$ , A TRP is quite possibly the best combination of quality / dollar expenditure.

I love my Dan Wesson and it is a phenomenal shooting gun. But my wallet doesn't allow me to play in the custom arena right now.

Baer will give you the most bang for your buck.... However, Wilson, Nighthawk, SVI, Christensen, will give you more options, more potential refinements...... I own a couple including a 50DE and have compared....

I shoot better with Springfield Pro or guncrafter but it depends on the shooter.... I've a customized SVI & Infinity, they worth every penny...SVI offers more options to customize...it really comes down to personal preference and how much you are willing to spend and what you intend to do with em.....you can spend more and more and definitely will get a beautiful finish/feel but basic mechanical functionality would be same and could not do much better than baer.

Personally speaking based on experience, I prefer revolvers in reliability, accuracy, customization & stopping power......

i was cleaning some of them so took a pic.

Akai has come a long way..... can't really believe I'm suggesting them.

They focus mostly on competition guns, but can build a nice single stack.

I'd also check out Spencer Race Guns and EMG Customs. Both will build YOU a gun for a lifetime.

I take my pistols to Jeff Abernathy in NC. He built all Todd Jarretts guns. Top not work at reasonable prices and no run around. Got tired of the checks in the mail bullshit with a couple of popular pistilsmiths. Close friend sent a Phoenix Trinity frame to Akai for a build two and a half years later and and a year of “I’m shipping it next week” he finally got his pistol. Had to take it to Jeff to get it to actually run. Similar experience with Hayes Customs.

Yeah, I was under the impression Akai had gotten their stuff together. I know a few years ago it was sketchy.
