Fished with a buddy out of Charleston. Went out in search of a grouper, ended up with about everything but one.
Started out in 100ft, ARS so thick you couldn't put a live bait past them on multiple spots. Tagged 14 ARS and released with the seaquilizer.
This barotrauma release devices have come a long way and are super simple to use. We used a dedicated rod with 40oz of weight to send them back down quickly. Had to bump it up only for the really big snappers. It required 60oz to get a 33" ARS back down.
Tagged 6 AJs as well as part of the barotrauma study. The AJs and big sharks ensured we are all sore today.
On one shark there was a school of cobias which for the most part weren't interested in eating anything we had. Tricked one with an eel and he made it into the box.
Bounced out to a little deeper water and caught our silvers, triggers, and vermilion.
Ended up with two beautiful hogs as well, a first for me on hook and line.
Ended the day after the second hog, grouperless but with a box full of fish.
