Default Seeking ATV, what to look for?

I'm about to sell or trade my duck boat out for an ATV. Never owned one.

What do I look for? Brands/models in the $3-4k range that will last?
Does 4wd matter? What engines give the least trouble?

Honda. 4wd absolutely matters and I can’t believe they make them in 2wd. I personally like the ES (thumb shift) models

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

4x4 matters in many ways, not just traction- it gives all wheel braking and prevents backflips climbing hills and truck ramps. A basic Honda Rancher 420 part time 4x4 foot shift is money very well spent. The only Honda problems we had around out hunt club was with the electric shift.

Fuel injection is nice so you don't have to fool with carbs.

I actually looked at that earlier today. I still have to sell my boat but I will keep that in mind - looks clean.

I have Polaris Ranger UTV and love it. Before that I have owned Polaris ATV’s. No complaints at all 1st one was a 93 425 mag that I rode hard and put up wet. Sold it about 6-7 yrs ago to a guy that lives near my son, he is still using it around his farm. Replaced with Sportsman 800 EFI, that sucker was a beast but never really rode it much at all. In fact dealership I bought it from gave me a very fair price on trade on my Ranger said they would not keep it a week , it would and did sell that fast

Most brand name atv’s pretty good to be honest, just personal preference and what ever you can get best deal on

Word of advice find one adult ridden and if you see snorkels and high intake boxes WALK AWAY FAST , probably been well used
