Spend some quality time at indian creek rifle range and then decide if you want to ask that question again. Not a range you pay to shoot at, free to public. It is literally scary the stupidity sometimes.

Can I? Yes, given my own constraints and a comfortable shooting situation.

Do I think the adverage SC hunter should, probably not.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is,
as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

I have taken head shots and plenty of neck shots with great success. I don't any more. I shot a big doe in the neck a few years ago from a good rest in a tripod stand. Less than 100 yards, chip shot. She went down like she was struck by lightning. I pig ran out into the lane at the shot so I waxed his ass too. When I got down to drag them out, the doe was gone. I searched for about an hour and a half and never found her or any trace.

I am very confident in my shooting and practice a lot. I still don't know how that doe got away but I quit taking neck shots. High shoulder or, lately, chest shots. The only reason I take chest shots is to give my tracking dog something to track.

Yep. Volquartsen in .17HMR. Minute of squirrel head from 0-100 yards. Probably the most accurate gun I own.

Thought it was donation now. Learned something. I stopped going there years ago due to yahoo’s and their kids being stupid. Go to private one down the road from my house now.

Some of you people need to quit calling yourselves hunters if you can’t execute a head shot every now and then.

Took the wife behind the house to sit on a food plot this evening after we got back from all our Thanksgiving festivities and this ole girl decided to step out at about 60 yards, facing the stand. She then started stomping her foot. Bad idea, that girl can shoot.......

Not real sure how to determine what is and what isn't an average Hunter.
ANY/EVERY Hunter should know their limits. Also should not be willing to test their limits on an animal that may result in crippling/causing it to suffer.

Not that I am anything above or below an average Hunter I always shoot at base of neck if the opportunity is available.
Have taken head shots and been successful in past but those shots are under 100 yards. If any question is in my head or gut I won't take shot. We as hunters owe it to the animal we are hunting.

Obviously a double lung or heart shot is ethical but my thought process is even though an animal doesn't know what hit them they are running from adrenaline and shock for their life and expire.
I feel better when I make a shot on an animal and it is dead immediately I feel like animal has not suffered period when it falls dead in tracks.

Also it is easy to become over confident. One time or another every one of us are guilty of this. So don't let your head be to swollen up to enjoy hunting and do what is best for the animal if any way possible

I have shot maybe 3 bucks in the neck and that was because they ended up in tall grass. I do not really care for shooting bucks in the neck. The kill zone is too small for the target area. Now, I shoot every single doe in the neck. About 6" under her head. Either you hit her and it is lights out or you miss and she runs off. I shoot a bunch tho. I have good rests in all of our stands or I will brace off of a tree. Having said all that, I would say the average Hunter probably does not need to do that.

To me, head shots are a no. 1, they are messy. 2, is the shooting their jaw off. If you can shoot them in the ear, than shoot them in the neck. If you want to shoot them in the head so you can tell, BOOOOOM HEADSHOT!!!! Than just play video games.
