Made it to Kansas Friday a week ago after a 18 hour non-stop drive from Aiken for our annual bow hunt. Unfortunately the weather was warmer than it should have been with multiple days topping out in the mid 60’s. Of course this shut the deer down pretty good during the daylight hours and limited their night time movements as well. All of our shooters were almost non-existent on the multiple cameras that we run including the cell cameras. We typically leave on Thursday to come home but elected to stay an extra day with the weather forecasting a front coming in Wednesday night. I sat until 1230pm Thursday and elected to get out of the stand to grab a bite to eat. Up until that point I had seen three does, a 6pt and a 8pt. I went to a new stand for the afternoon and settled in about 230. One of our shooters had shown up on this stand that morning in the daylight around 9am. This is a pretty small block of woods and I was hoping he had bedded down there for the day. It was 28 degrees with the wind chill and was gusting around 20mph straight in my face, so obviously not the most comfortable sit. Long story short he came at in at 5pm grunting and started pushing a doe around that had bedded down 50 yards from the stand and the rest is history.
