Yep, have 2 coveys I know of on our place that started as tamies from a dog trainer that hasn’t released any in a few years, and I only found them by happenstance. I’m sure if I searched I could find a few more. It’s quite the rush having a dozen of those acrobatic birds explode right next to you.

My favorite hunting bar none is quail.
I'd buy a good dog right now if I had enough places to hunt.
If the WMA lands keep improving, a dog will be gotten.

My dad and I use to work our dogs on a place in Grey Court when I lived in the upstate. Use to get Wisconsin giants IIRC from a guy up there. I’d work the dogs and let my dad shoot but as he got older, he wasn’t a very good shot so he missed a lot. Those missed birds coveyed up too. One day we pulled the truck up and Ike my male GSP jumped out of the truck and flipped around in mid air, I swear that dog locked up on point in mid air because when he landed he was frozen. My female Abby was locked up standing on the back seat. My dad went to step out of the truck and about 15 birds blew up at his feet. He couldn’t shoot, he didn’t even have a gun. I’ll never forget the look Ike gave him. It was like look dad, that was some acrobatic shit I did locking up on point in mid air and sticking the landing, least you could do is shoot.
That was a generalization on my part. There are most certainly instances where released birds survive and breed. But in my decade of managing wildlife and time spent in the woods those instances a far less common than finding quail feathers where a hawk or some ground predator has had a snack.

It's even better with a trained dog pointing them for you and a loaded shotgun at the ready. Believe it.

DNR should cut the gamewarden budget in half and start releasing pheasants like Midwest states do.

Cut the green jean budget? C'mon. Enough crap goes on now and there is no one to stop half of it.

Or are you saying drop their wages? I really doubt many of us here could live on what they are paid now.

And pheasants can't survive in SC.

Pheasant can survive in SC. Had a few living at a club in Sumter for years.
