    Default Without a Second Thought

There was a comment made in here the other day about getting what you pay for and getting a lifetime of use from something. We've all heard that line countless times but for some reason I started thinking about items that had served me well over the years and which of those I would buy again. The topic somewhat came back up tonight at class when a few of us were shooting the breeze in the shop while on break and talking about buying good equipment/tools

Maybe its a stupid thread, maybe it'll be interesting to see what people from different professions say, I don't know. But name an item(s) that you have bought (or were given) that if it were lost, stolen, or somehow destroyed, that you would replace it as soon as possible with the EXACT same item without even considering another brand or model.

I thought about guns, knives, and tools. The only two things that came to mind that I would buy again without second thought and absolutely zero consideration of another brand were my Estwing hammer and my Henry .22 rifle. Interestingly enough, my brother-in-law had the exact same answer about the hammer.

    What's your item?

Land Cruiser, 13oz Plumb wood handle, 25oz Estwing California Framing hammer (they quit making them but I got two more, they just aren’t broken in), Sawstop 5hp, Stihl chainsaws. Sako rifles and a Puma White Hunter.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Stihl chainsaws- while I have had a couple of unusual engine failures, almost expected with the abuse and number of saws I have running in other peoples hands, I wouldn't think about switching brands.

Estwing framing length 22oz smooth face hammer- I have broken 2 in half where the rubber meets the exposed metal shaft- replaced for free and will always have one, almost all my guys use the same hammer.

Honda 4 wheeler- enough said about that.

I have my dads Estwing hammer that he used for years while on the job and it is my go to hammer. I'll buy another one, if I ever wear that one out.
I take an PLB in the shower with me. Can't ever be too safe.
