Its more of a personal preference.....20# is almost as good as 12#..... However, for waterfowl, if using 20#, chances of winger are more so choose right choke and load...it also depends on distance the bird...Places where duck shows up nearby, 20# is light and fun, however, for distance shooting 12# is better..... Also, arrival migration ducks have less fat on them, whereas return migration, ducks have more fat so you need penetration power.

my wife uses 410# for upland and duck....Choke & load varies.

personally, i use 20# for upland and 12# for duck

Hoping to make a purchase in the next couple of weeks. Are the A300 and Affinity 3 still the consensus picks? I'm planning on 12 gauge.

    What's your feedback then, please?

That Mossberg you already have will kill any duck you can hit. Save that $1500 until you are sure you love it and have enough experience to know more of what you want.
For what it is worth I shoot a Beretta A400 because I wanted the softest shooting 12 gauge after a couple of neck surgeries.

Thank you. The bead on the Mossberg has broken off, so it's time to get something nice(r). Pretty sure it's gonna be the A300 but I've heard good things about the Affinity 3's, too. The Winchester SX4 also looks intriguing.

If you're looking at a bead then you're doing it wrong.

Make sure you clean it really well to get the cosmoline off of it. I've seen several new A300's that they went overboard with the grease and it caused issues.

You will probably shoot that mossberg better now that the bead is gone. Im partial to the Affinity but Beretta makes some damn nice shotguns. You won't go wrong with either. Franchi is an inertia gun and Beretta is gas if that factors in to your decision making.

Beretta A400 first pick or A300 if you're on a budget.
