6 Fifty Cals on the Mustang.. 2 in each wing and 2 in the nose.. Great airplanes. We go to the Dobbins AFB Airshow annually. They have some P51Ds in the show. Super cool to hear one fly by .

Just Damn.
I'da thunk it was three in each wing...
They were bad ass. The Brit Typhoon (four 20mm cannon) and our P-47 (eight wing mounted 50's) carried a hell of a punch and did a lot of low level work in eastern Europe as well.

The 2x2x2 machine gun variants of the Mustangs lasted until mid 1944 (the P51D)when the guns were indeed moved to a 3x3 set up - which was in response to pilot complaints about the Browning 50 cals jamming during combat. I had to call my guy who owns one to get the "rest of the story" Believe it or not , but he tells me the M2s were installed laying on their sides in early P51s - which caused the jamming issues.

The ones with the nose mounted fiddies were "pre-A" series models from what I can tell. I had no idea. They actually had four .30's and four .50's The A, B, and C models went down to four M2's (two in each wing) then went back to 6 with the D model. The world of Mustangs is more complex than I thought.
Thank God for the Merlin engine.

That’s got to be satisfying.

Saw these bad boys up close at the air show last year.
The mustangs were awesome but always loved the corsairs.
F4U Corsair is the best looking plane ever built.
The Mustang, The Warthog and the F4 Phantom (Vietnam) are my favorite

I have a deep interest in all forms of military aircraft. Seldom miss a local air show. The F4U was neat indeed. The P-38, although plagued with some issues, was always one of my favorites.
Of WWII aircraft, the later models of the Spitfire (Mark XIV) was truly badass.

My youngest son with a Warthog he traveled around with. I believe this pic was taken in Turkey.

He says its a gun with a plane built around it, steel belly for bullet proofing, hold a rediculous amount of rounds.

“… duckhunting stands alone as an outdoor discipline. It has a tang and spirit shared by no other sport—a philosophy compounded of sleet, the winnow of unseen wings, and the reeks of marsh mud and wet wool. No other sport has so many theories, legends, casehardened disciples and treasured memories.”

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
