Default How a Mule Kick Killed 8 People (SC History)

I may have posted this before, but’s it worth a second read.

It’s a pretty interesting story involving some Edgefield history, Strom Thurmond is of course involved and tomorrow is the anniversary of the big shootout that took place. The house where the shooting happened is still standing. I always found it interesting as I have deep family ties to that area. The lady who ended up being sentenced to death taught many of my great-aunts and uncles and the son of the sharecropper that was killed was a friend of my grandfathers.

There is also a book about it, The Guns of Meeting Street.

Had to admire the justice system back then. Do it quick and be done with it.

That’s one of the things I noticed too. Quick trial and execution

It’s a great read. I live about 10 miles from there as the crow flies.

I've tried twice to read it. I'm a reader, local to the area and somewhat of a history guy. But, that book gets boring about halfway to me. My daddy remembers when it went down. He said an old man in town said they carried "guns with wheels on them" up there.

I have heard tales about ol Strom Sr.. Not surprised to read that he tore off a piece from a gal on the way to ride the lightning.

Never knew about the story until my next door neighbors were riding to the edge field property to look at the lots because its being split amongst family. Turns out, Sue Logue was my neighbors great-aunt, or great great.

Good read! A good friend told me this story a few years ago. He's a great conversationalist.

My grandad has read the book several times, was reading again yesterday when I stopped by. I’m going to borrow it when he finishes again
He was born not far from there, off the road that runs between Faulkner mtn. rd and back to goldmine rd, there’s a little driveway that turns up a hill and a few graves there and some of them are my great great grandparents. It’s actually on hickory hills property
