He said hes backed up with vehicles in his shop and he didn't have room for another truck. But if I could get it out and to him it would speed the process up.

    Ryan,
Crawl up under there and drop it. Most trucks have decent room under them.
Its been a long time since I have done it but, get a floor jack under it to support the tranny (gear shifting thingy not upstate QB),
remove crossmember if needed, drop drive shaft, unplug all harnesses, drop transmission lines and linkages, vacuum line, etc. Unbolt from bellhousing and slowly lower the floor jack. May have to pry a little between the bellhousing and engine to get it off the positioning pins on engine.
    Or something like the above

I’ve done a many in my Grandfathers garage like this growing up as a kid.

But as I’ve got older, I would say screw that with a 2500 diesel with an Allison trans assuming this is the vehicle in question.

What would suck if the trans builder makes a mistake and it have to be pulled again. Who would pay who?

The lift or actually lifts I had to buy just to lift a diesel truck was 10k a piece. My over head is high, my tools are high,my scanners are high, my year subscriptions are high, my freaking workmans comp is higher than a house on lake Murray’s
    mortgage payment.

Sometimes I wish I was just back in the shop behind my house.... but then again I’m dreaming of those days where I can hunt 40 days of the season instead of getting home at 7pm.

On of my employees went through 3 transmissions from Advance- with him providing all labor. After 3 failures he raised enough hell they paid a transmission shop to take his truck in and rebuild it.
I installed 2 bad used junkyard turbo 350 transmissions when I was younger- sucks when you have to do the work in the dirt with no jack. Glad for the 30 day guarantee though.

One of the last things my favorite uncle said to me, and he was a character.

I asked him one day if he was broke and he said, "I ain't broke but I'm bent real bad"
