Have been gifted a 300win what are the advantages to a brake? The disadvantage is the muzzle blast increase.
What brake should I be looking into?

Most definitely don't put a break on it. It will wreck your hearing. Either leave it alone or put a suppressor on it.

Wear earplugs.
If you want to significantly reduce recoil, put a brake on it. A brake does more for recoil mitigation than a suppressor does.
Area 419 makes some great ones as does APA and Patriot Valley.
Wear plugs.
Sort of depends on the rifle. My Finnlight 85 is pretty soft shooting for a .300wm and has no brake. I have a Cooper OC that is braked and it’s about like a .243 or my boy’s 6.5 RAP. Depends on how recoil sensitive you are.
And yes braked wear muffs/plugs or you’ll regret it.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
You might take out a dozen before they drag you from your home and skull fuck you to death. Marsh Chicken 6/21/2013

I’ll be the first to admit I hate shooting rifles that do not have a brake or suppressor.

I love shooting my breaked rifles.
Just take ear muffs to the stand with you. Takes all of 2 extra seconds to put them on before shooting.

I had one gun I had a brake put on years ago, best shooting gun I ever had but got tire of taking ear muffs to deer stand. 300 Win mag. Other part is the extended length was aggravating at times but I adapted to that .
Buddy of mine used it one day and fell in love with it, he cannot hear worth a shit. He wanted to buy it so gladly let it go. Heck oldest son killed his first deer with it when he was 7-8 yr old. In fact he was bragging (kiddingly ) about his young son using a 300 win mag to kill his first deer one day. Told them to find out what a REAL 300 feels like to shoot my 300 Wby mag to see the recoil difference , we just never got around to it
That being said, guns shoot GREAT with them but keep in mind you will need ear muffs and you may have a little extra length on barrel Mistake I made was when I had gunsmith put muzzle brake on I did not pay a little extra and have it made removable where you could remove it and put an end cap on barrel.
That 300 win mag has less recoil than a heavy barrel 243
Brakes are for long range rifles and pussies. Are you either?

Put a Vias think that’s right. Take ear muffs.
Shooting light or heavy magnums once or ten times isn’t fun. Hell I don’t even like shooting a 20lb 6mm without a brake. Truthfully I bitch about the recoil from a suppressor. All that is because I am extremely used to shooting a muzzle brake. It just makes things easier.
All that is just my personal opinion though. I am lazy and do not wear ear pro while deer hunting. That is the only reason I even shot suppressed.
First off you should be wearing hearing protection regardless, so why not? All it could do is make you a better shooter.
Holland muzzle brake
I love a brake for targets, hate a brake for hunting unless its only long range and you have time to insert plugs. I could care less about recoil but a brake absolutely allows the shooter more ease in seeing impact splash / hit on a target be it steel or fur.
Depends on what you want to do and yes you can run a rig with or without but your POI will not be the same.
