45 acre impoundment.

30ish acres of corn, the remainder is good moist soil plants.
Really couldn’t be happier with the plant response.

But one tiny little area in the pond is catching my attention.

For the last 2 seasons, during flood up, I notice that this 100 x 200ft area is strange.
Water is jet black and smells rank.
Back off it 40 yds and clear water, no smell.

There was an old home site near this area, but it would’ve been torn down long ago.
I’m thinking pre-septic tank era. The bottles and other homesite debri date it around late 1800s-early 1900s.

Soil seems fine when dry and disked and the smartweed, panicum, and barnyard grass grows good there.

Any ideas?
