    Default Tractor Mechanic

My dad gave me a Case 480C Backhoe that we havent ran in 6 or 7 years. It was running when we parked it. I imagine I can get it running but I would like to get with a mechanic to go through it and check for things I might miss. Its an early 80's model machine if I'm not mistaken. Anyone recommend a good diesel mechanic who I can take it to? I'm in Gilbert SC and dont want to have to haul it more than 30 miles or so if I can help it. Someone with a service truck who could come to me would be even better.
    Thanks in advance.

Robert Dannelly from Norway can get it fixed up but you had better wait until the cotton’s all picked

Pretty simple machine, change fuel filters, replace battery, check for rat damage, especially neutral safety switch. Crank it up and then call mechanic if something needs fixing. He will charge you a minimum of $100 plus a hour and then mileage to parts store. He will get in the pocketbook and stay in it .Parts plus 10%.

I'll second that. He runs a service truck but, I don't know how far he'll go.

Sounds good, got a couple of 140-150” bucks on camera. They ought to be ready to shoot soon. They ain’t quite chasing yet, but this cold weather should bring them around.

Blame the manufacturer, not the mechanic.

Step 1 in an auto repair manual is disconnect the negative battery terminal. Step 1 in a tractor repair manual is split the SOB in half.

He will, at times, respond to a text, but you can forget answering a call.

So since deer season went out I have been working on this tractor some on the weekends. Replaced a few hoses, filters, and fluids. The engine runs good and all the hydraulics are working good. The only problem I have ran into is with the shuttle shifter going in to forward gear. Goes into reverse just fine. Wants to grind going into forward though. Could there be some adjustment made to the shifter possibly, or is this going to be in the transmission? Thoughts? Opinions? If anyone has experience with a problem like this, and can recommend something please do. Thanks in advance.
