Default Pffff and they were gone!

Water freezing up and flooded corn hunt is no more. Beans being cut by the hundred acres as I type. No cut corn in this county. Blowing snow flurries and thousands of snow geese are moving and coming in. Ducks seemed to have disappeared. Freezing temps will keep anything but big water Frozen. Not scheduled to come home till Saturday. I have had two people to tell me that the mallards seem to show up after the geese. This is new for me, what do you seasoned out west hunters think, mallards follow the geese? Opinions?

I drove from Bismark to Gettysburg SD and back last week. Mallards were not plentiful. We broke ice in the shallow water potholes two of three mornings. There were almost no flights compared to twenty three straight years of hunting experience in the area.

The ducks that were there were in the wet unharvested fields. They could be tracked from their roost but could not be seen in the field.

We ain't given up yet but everything was flying south. Snow geese were coming in by the thousands. Mallards were scarce this afternoon. Two more days of this and I will throw in the towel and head back to sakarlina. Damn it was good for 2 days.

Took a couple days but we found a 3 man limit today. Took all day with a break for lunch but we had some 20-30 bird draws and shot poorly. This is my youngest son's first time hunting out here now that he graduated high school, he got to come. Hes become a good shot this year vs years past. I’ve been getting a lot of reports about birds on the move S.

Mudflat, I’m sure he was a happy camper to head out there!
