Recommendations? Tractor hydraulics or independent engine set up?
I'd get one that didn't tie up a tractor. If you ever get one, you will never pick up an axe again.
You need to come study the one that we have at the farm. Home made. I think it would split a concrete bridge piling.
I had the same question and ended up buying a complete rig when Northern Tool put them on sale. I'm glad I got one with an engine for the reason mentioned, it doesn't tie up the tractor. It's nice to be able to haul around new logs and firewood while the splitting is going on. The only down side I considered was the possibility of friends wanting to borrow it.
Take a tire or 2 off your splitter and no one can borrow it. I prefer the tractor hydraulics option so I don't have to maintain a gas engine. Got plenty of tractors so tying one up isn't an issue. Man needs more than 1 tractor , it's like rifles and such.
We gave you Corn, you gave us clap, bad trade.
