10/22 question

I just picked up a seemingly new 10/22. Owner said this spring fell out of it. I don’t know where it would have come from. Ideas?

It might be the extractor spring. If it fell out, you may also be missing the extractor. If you have to replace it, but an upgrade from Volquartsen.

That's exactly what it looks like. Will pull it apart tonight to see what it's missing.

After thinking about it, I remembered that the Volquartsen one I bought had to be modified slightly. The one in the link above worked fine right out of the box.

Definitely the extractor spring. Thanks again. New one ordered.

Now...how would it have fallen out?

The extractor isn't pinned or anything. It holds the spring in and is held in by the geometry of the slot it fits in. Once you have the bolt in hand, you can remove them without tools.
