    Default Waterfowl

    Have they shown up yet?

I haven’t been out on the lakes or marshes in about a month, and most of the impoundments around are just beginning to pump in Clarendon County.

3 pairs of whistling ducks with broods, 30ish summer ducks, and 5 bluewings are all I see.

Usually a full moon in October means the first trickle of birds to our area.

    Is anybody seeing anything significant?

I’m just about tired of waiting on em
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Wood ducks only. My cousins ponds are empty, which is unusual.

Wood ducks showed up at my fish pond about a week ago. 100 +/- are roosting there now. It’s nice watching them filter in while sitting in the deer stand.

I think the big waves of migrants really don't get here until mid-November.

We're still holding a ton of mottled ducks, teal and whistlers, but I saw some summer ducks mixed in and a few mallards (they're under suspicion) Saturday.

We had a 4 day session in NC week before last. Killed some summer ducks but not as many as normal. We also need rain.

Last weekend of teal season was the last time I checked. Had about 50 wood ducks, 25-30 bwts and 9 grey ducks in the only pond I have ready. Got blinds brushed and gonna start pumping next Monday.

Some "bird watchers" logged about 200 mallards and various other ducks last week. I can't confirm nor deny it though.

Some always show up last week of October regardless of weather.

I saw more in September than I’m seeing now. Seems like there’s more geese than ducks and that’s not good
