    Default SC Towing Law

Can someone point me to towing laws of SC? I can't seem to locate what I'm looking for and the information on unofficial websites are conflicting.

I don't ever see it so I would assume this is a NO but I'm trying to determine if SC allows double towing? If so, is bumper to bumper allowed or does the first trailer in tow have to be a fifth wheel?

    Thanks...

    Double towing is allowed
I’ll find the section code and let you know.

My neighbor pulled out the other day for MB towing his camper and the boat attached to that. I’ve seen plenty pull campers and also pull a trailer for the golf cart.

Thanks PT. I'd enjoy reading over it but just knowing it's allowed will get me started for now.

You will need a CDL to do legally.

I pull double welding machine trailers sometimes. Never had an issue. I had a NC trooper tell me 15 years ago it’s was not legal in NC unless you were on the interstate. Something about interstate commerce laws. Maybe things have changed.

Another fun fact. You can ride in a 5th wheel while it's being towed in SC. Based on the way my stuff moves around you couldn't talk me into it.

used to be CDL, restricted routes and a 5th wheel followed by a ball hitch- don't know about today

You need to put the slides out and that will stop.

Would give the wife and kids more room to move around in it while Im towing. Good call.

Bad idea! A family let their kids ride home from the lake in the trailer and they died from Carbon monoxide poisoning.

Thinking about a camper but it'd be pointless if I couldn't pull the boat. Just kicking around ideas to see what's viable.

"Legal" and "safe" are not the same thing. I can't imagine towing anything behind a bumper pull camper. 5th wheel, maybe. Ive experienced what happens when a trailer sways enough to push you around.
