All my stock chokes either say lead only or steel okay. But the full that I shoot in my Vinci is a kicks and it’s designed for steel.
I really have no idea why so many people recommend shooting the steel 7's. Does it kill ducks ? Sure. But it also leaves a lot of shot in the bird with few pass throughs. I would recommend a larger shot size unless you really enjoy visiting your dentist.

All Killed with 2 3/4” steel target loads #7s
When in doubt, shoot him again!
Work like it's all up to me, but pray, like it's all up to him!
Would you not recommend 8s on doves?
Winchester makes a #7 steel load. I have killed many ducks with them

I would feel like such a nerd shooting BBs at ducks.
^yep
I think its weird we even need a thread to discuss the relative merits of a 20ga using 2.75" shells. Both work just fine.
If not, maybe you just suck at shooting.
and, seriously, who DOESN'T want to see their dentist regularly....
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
Sorry for my ignorance, I just thought it best to consult y’all before trying it and injuring a few birds.
i wasnt picking on you. Knowledge is power. Just remember that not everyone is right. You have to decide....
but i am not afraid of a 20ga with 2 3/4 " shells. You just have to be smart when you carry it.

I’ve shot 54 of the 75 game bird species in North America with a 20 gauge. It isn’t rocket science.
Why would anyone shoot 7's at woodies? I use lead 7's and 8'2 on dove and quail sized birds. For crow and pheasant sized birds, I step up to lead 5's or 6's. For big ducks where I have to use steel shot, I want as few pellets as possible left in my meal and as big a shot as practical to overcome the limitation afforded by low mass steel. I use 2's or BB's on big ducks and 3's or 4's on wood ducks or ringnecks.
If you shoot ducks where they are supposed to be shot...
In the decoys, or inside 30yds on a pass shoot, a 4.10 will kill them stone dead every, single, time.
There’s been a plethora of negative fads to slime over waterfowling, and suped-up shells aren’t exempt.
3.5inch black clouds were born for folks who can’t finish ducks. They’ll damn sure knock a duck down at 60yds... I’ve seen it happen.
But the whole dad-blame game is to fool em into setting their feet down isn’t it?
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
