    Default 10/5/19 Double Trouble

Killed the broken racked buck chasing a doe. Drug him to the base of the stand and was standing there admiring him when I heard something. Looked up and the 2nd buck was trotting down the same path. He saw the dead buck and screeched to a halt. Saw me and started backing up but he was a tad too slow. Killed about 10min apart.

I made a mistake and didn’t reload after the 2nd buck, and I won’t ever track another deer without a sidearm

I tracked the 2nd buck into a thick clearcut. Walked up on him and he wasn’t dead, he stood up and started walking toward me with his head down like he means business. I had an empty muzzleloader in my hand and wasn’t toting a sidearm. As hes walking forward I’m backing up with an empty gun in one hand and was reaching for my knife with the other trying to decide which would be better to fight him with if he decides to charge. He bumped into a pine sapling about 10’ tall and and it knocked him off balance and he never got back up

My heart was racing pretty good when he stood up on me

My buddies dad had a similar story at SRS one time. Shot a buck that crossed the road and just after the shot the hunt ended. Any way, he left his gun on the road because the hunt was over. Buck came at him and he put a sapling between himself and the deer. When the deer rammed the tree, he grabbed the horns and proceeded to stab it in the neck until it gave up the fight. Pucker factor for sure.
