Default Daughter is ready to shoot one!

I bought my 6 year old daughter a single shot 223 and she has been shooting it weekly. She is tiny only weighing about 40lbs but is doing well with it. Got busted by a couple deer on youth day and ever since then she has been asking me how much longer until she can go deer hunting. How old was everyone’s kids when they shot their first deer?

Both of my kids were 7 when they killed their first deer and both shot a single shot 223. It will do just fine with proper shot placement. My daughter killed a 234lb 12pt with it when she was 9yrs old.

I don't understand your comment. He asked and people have responded.

I waited till they "wanted" to go and could safely and reliably fire their rifle accurately. It's a judgment call for each person.

    that's a better answer.

its not about age. its about the individual. my sons hunted "early." my daughter decided at 12 she was ready. it was FAR MORE enjoyable with her but I'm not gonna tell this cat's 6yr old not to enjoy it.....

My son was 8. My daughter is 6 and wants to give it a go but I am having her wait another year. I want to make sure my kids are mature enough to appreciate the life they are taking before they do.

My son was 11 when he finally felt comfortable enough to want to shoot. When he finally did it was over. Now at 13 he wants to shoot everything that moves and I couldn't be happier.
