    Default Murray boat fatality

Heavy law and EMS presence at lighthouse last night. Apparently a go fast boat hit a pontoon from behind, 1 DOA, 2 in critical condition.

I love this lake but damn if it ain’t a gamble to go out after hours during they summer months.

I’ve got a friend with a house up there and we used to try to striper fish at night.

No where else in this State is there that much wide open boat traffic from dusk til dawn.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

One small running light is not enough when the shoreline is full of lights. A q beam works well to see and be seen.

There are still parts of the lake that I'll fish at night. That part is not one. With the close calls I've seen I'm surprised there aren't more wrecks.

Me too. Navigation lights on a lake like Murray are about useless as DT mentioned. I bout got run over not once but twice coming home in the little boat about a month ago. Had I not been paying attn: we would have been smashed and even though I made a sudden move to avoid the collision the dumb ass's still about hit us

There's been quite a few people killed on that stretch of water over the years.
I live pretty close to Suzie Ebert and can hear big boats running fast across the lake all night long. Clear night, dark night, rough night, it don't matter.
I hug the bank, stay off big water and have a spotlight in reach if I got out at night.

I recall one summer around 2000 when the paper noted 56 deaths on the lake just during the summer. Maybe it was more than that. But it seemed extremely high.

That is a pretty typical summer on Lake Lanier in North Georgia. Go fast boats, alcohol, and people with no idea how to drive a boat is a recipe for disaster.

Very sad situation for the family on the pontoon. I hate what Lake Murray is turning into.

Dad dead, wife busted up and lost a leg, adult daughter busted up. Heard it was a real nasty scene. Sad end to summer.

This, Ive ran up on a pontoon that a candle would have been brighter than his stern light. I’ve quit going out there after dark or Saturdays in general after 10am

How many boat vs boat accidents were there post 2001 vs pre?
Politics created this. Money enabled it. Dnr supports it.
