    Default LC Smith gunsmith

Anybody know of anyone who is a specialist on double guns, particularly LC Smith's? I am aware of Darlington Gun Works, just seeing if anyone knows anyone closer to the Charlotte/Lancaster/Rock Hill area.

Call Ronnie Cox over in the Simpsonville area. He's pretty highly regarded, but if he isn't exactly what you are looking for, I'm sure he could recommend someone.

A guy named Daniel Printz in NC...close to Yanceyville. Double guns are a specialty, if I am not mistaken.. http://danthegunman.com/index.php?op...ntact&Itemid=3

If he's still there, Phil Watkins at Darlington Gun Works is worth the drive.

Go spend some time on the LC Smith Collectors Forum. I have heard of a man in WV, I believe his name is Jerry Andrews. He is highly regarded on that forum.

What are you looking to have done?

Jim Kelly is washed up and I won’t darken his doorstep again, ever. He sold me a single trigger 20 ga LC that he assured me was a “shooter” that he had gone through. First time that I shot it on a dove shoot, it was double firing and when I took it back he kept it for several weeks and then charged me to fix it. Keep in mind that it was sold to me as a gun that was in working order. It was not. Boozer can attest to the fact that it was not a “shooter”. I have no doubt that he is an LC Smith guy, but I doubt his ethics and morals.

Took my Smith to Ronnie and had him inspect it before shooting it. It was in relatively good shape and I’ve been shooting it a bunch since he looked at it. I’ve been shooting RST 2.5” shells with it

Yeah I saw about RST making low pressure 2.5" shells on one of the forums. I was checking out their website. They load some low pressure bismuth too, but damn its expensive.

Just make sure you give Cox a timeline. He has had a double of mine for a year.

In my opinion, if you are serious about getting quality work done to a firearm, it shouldn't matter the distance you may need to send the gun. What is close by is not always the best.

Pack it up and ship it to Briley or whoever you discover is the best with the gun you need work on.

Very fair comment. And don't expect him to call you when it's ready.

Please do what Two Barrels has said. These old American doubles deserve respect and few gunsmiths know how to properly work on them.

Definitely will! I’m just trying to do some research and gather names of who people think may be the best. Close to me is a plus, but if someone is good enough I would pack it up. I want it done right.
