Default New DL / Fed ID

So starting next year you have to have a federal ID to fly. You can now get a new DL which also serves as a federal ID. It doesn't take the place of a passport for international travel but it will certainly get you on a domestic plane.

My wife went to the DMV today to get her new DL/Fed ID. She took two forms of ID, two pieces of mail confirming the address, her newer SS card with her married name, and her birth certificate. This is everything the DMV says you have to have.

She gets turned away at the DMV because she didn't have a marriage license showing we got married and her name change on her SS Card was valid. I can understand if we were newly weds maybe...but going on 11 years and she's got a DL since we've been married and the DMV already had all of her information switched in their system. Goodness the hassle.

Just letting yall know. If your wife is going to the DMV to get her new DL/Fed ID, tell her to take her marriage license. Hell, I couldn't begin to tell you where ours is.

Now we just need to require the Fed ID to vote.

I wish I could have been there when they signed the paperwork to initiate that mess. So I could of dipped my balls on it.

I got mine last year. Painless process for me and the wife. Took 20 minutes.

Only the government could get away with such bureaucratic bullshit.

Why can't they consolidated their own record keeping. If I have a Global Entry card, which required fingerprints, a passport, all sorts of IDs and an in person interview with DHA. Why can't they accept that in place of all the other bullshit? I also have a government security clearance and CAC card. I'll still have to jump through the stupid hoops.

.....and you still don't need ID to vote.

I will add...my wife let her DL expire. And this could be why it's a more painful experience. But I'm with PB and HS. It's bs no matter how you slice it.

What is the date next year for flying? It's later in the year, right?

The SCDMV must have all of the following on file for US Citizens:

    • Proof of Identity (Government-issued birth certificate or valid US Passport)
    • Proof of Social Security Number.
    • Two Proofs of Current, Physical SC Address.
    • Proof of All Legal Name Changes.

Thanks. Mine expires prior to that. Thought I remembered that I didn't need to make a special trip to renew before then.
