Left side has some neat stuff going on. I saw this buck a month ago when I was visiting. He was running with a big 10. Told my parents to keep an eye out and try and snap a pic of him.

What's so cool to me is, I grew up in this house and always wished there was deer around. I use to take a knife and make fake rubs on trees. I'd show other kids but they didn't care.

Palmetto gets it. I feel the same way about corn piles, but to each ,his own.

With that attitude you best not be shootin doves off the powerline, water swattin a duck or limb whooping a gobbler.

Gobbler is harder to kill off the limb unless you're talking about roost shooting.

Nope just injured on his right side.

Probably got hit by a car.

He will pass on perfectly normal healthy, what appears to be a main frame 8 trait.
    Yup, he's crazy...

How do you know it is his right side that may be injured?

Your the vet, but all my research, and first hand experience confirms. It is generally the side that exemplifies the altered state, is in response to the other side of the body has been injured.

This is totally conjecture on my part, but due to them "stock piling" minerals all year. I prepose that once one side of the body is injured their body starts healing. In a attempt to heal quicker their body shifts nutrients from the uninjured side to the injured side. It throws the body into a state of unbalance. In a attempt to rectify the imbalance the body will then throw more nutrients back to the side that was robbed during the healing process, but it ends up manifesting in a unique and unpredictable manner.

The exception to this would be if the actual pedicle is damaged, then that side would manifest a different but predictable pattern each and every year after the damage.

Yeah, I was setting you up. Ipsilateral vs contralateral abnormal antler growth isn't based solely on whether or not an injury occurs on one side or the other but also whether it is a front or a back leg. Front leg, the same side will be affected. Back leg the opposite side will be affected. And the mechanism that causes it isn't understood. Your theory sounds plausible but hasn't been proven.

In this case of this deer, he's just a non typical.
