Bruton Smith Assigns Extra Security to Assist Brian Vickers during Bank of America 500 Week: In the aftermath of the controversial finish Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway Chairman Bruton Smith has assigned extra security for driver Brian Vickers during this week's Bank of America 500 activities at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Monday, the speedway ticket office was inundated with calls from race fans angry about the finish in which Vickers initiated a wreck that took out race leader Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and second-place Jimmie Johnson on the final lap. "We want to make sure Brian has an uninterrupted weekend here and that he is able focus on his driving duties," Smith said. "We will offer security escorts in and out of the speedway and anywhere he feels he needs our assistance. We've done this in the past as well, I think the last time was for Rusty (Wallace) when he knocked Darrell (Waltrip) out of the way to win the all-star race back in 1989. We added security at his house and track the week of the Coca-Cola 600."

In the old days with Petty, Johnson, etc the last lap looked like a demolition derby! Those guys would hammer each other coming down the stretch to the checkered.

Nowday if someone "almost" touches someone else the whole racing world starts crying foul!

That's another reason that to me it ain't nothing but watching traffic anymore!

Like I've said before, I can go sit on the overpass on I-26 or I-20 and see more entertaining driving!
The Elites don't fear the tall nails, government possesses both the will and the means to crush those folks. What the Elites do fear (or should fear) are the quiet men and women, with low profiles, hard hearts, long memories, and detailed target folders for action as they choose.

“… duckhunting stands alone as an outdoor discipline. It has a tang and spirit shared by no other sport—a philosophy compounded of sleet, the winnow of unseen wings, and the reeks of marsh mud and wet wool. No other sport has so many theories, legends, casehardened disciples and treasured memories.”

That would track, too. He is a whiney possum. I remember when Gordon was a rookie and tapped his teammate Kenny Schrader at Talledega and sent him end over end. Bout killed em. He cried..."I killed him I killed him." He didn't require "extra protection"
I remember when Iron head sent Rusty end over end at Talledega (or daytona...or both) back in the early 90's ...He went back after he crossed the finish line to check on him....He didn't need extra protection.

I do remember people threatening to KILL Sterling after he made contact w/ ironhead on that dreadful day. That was ridiculous, too.

GOod for Junior. He has grown up right. Ole Iron head did good.
It's hard to complain about getting wrecked when you wreck others often....SEE JEFF GORDON.....I can recall time after time when he used a chrome horn to move around others. I have no problem with that...Just leave thewhiney possum at home when it happens to you...BIG E used to be a good example....He would get mad as fire when someone put him to the curb, but you wouldn't hear him whine cause he did it more that just about anyone.
