While we are on this subject, I was told yesterday that with well water, I absolutely need to service my on demand water heater because my water filter sucks. Is this something that I can do or do I need to call in a 450hr plumber?

Is it a Rinnai? If so turn the valves off and unscrew the part that has the little screen screw on the cold water input side.

You can do it. It's pretty simple.

It's a little more in depth than that. The screen Will is talking about will collect some trash, but that has nothing to do with the lime scale build up on the inside of your heater.

I e got a whole house filter but cant find carbon elements. Any recommendations on a system to replace it with??

Edit to add: on Cassatt water to the house. Little bit of off taste but not as bad as city water. Been on well all my life and cant stand the taste.

What kind of system do you have?

To the OP, start with someone like Culligan or Lancaster Water Group. Have your water tested by them or the local dealer/rep for them and let them make a recommendation.

JABII, you need to pump vinegar through it about every year. There are youtube videos to show you how.

Don't go buying "white vinegar" off your grocery store shelf. Buy industrial or commercial grade vinegar (20-30% Pure Vinegar)

All this time I thought all they did was deliver water. Learn something everyday!

Also, as you know, they are in the business to sell. Make them give you several options then do your homework on what's best for you. A quick Google search shows a Culligan dealer in N. Charleston.
