    Default engine cowling gasket

I need to replace the gasket that goes around the cowling on my 9.9. It had lost its adhesiveness and one day I pulled the cowl off while on the water and that gasket fell off and sank before I had a chance to grab it. New, it looks like that piece cost $100+ (kind of pricey in my mind for what it is). Anybody ever come across some type of universal cowling gasket for this type situation that can be bought and cut to fit?

What about something like these? Under the rubber edge seals section

Look at Gore or PTFE type gasket material. It may fit your need. West Marine and Grainger will be a couple of places to get it. I would think an old gasket in a car window may work also.

id go to lowes and find some weather stripping that looks close. it isnt going to be, nor does it have to be water tight anyway.

I actually tried that, didn’t work out near as well as I had hoped for

3/8 fuel line split down middle and pressed onto top cowl. going to glue the edges and tidy it up a bit but not bad for a $5 fix. Seals down almost as tight as before

Pretty good idea but unless you pull the cowling on the regular I would not glue it. Just my 2
