    Default WTB Dog

My girls are pretty heart broken after our lab was hit by a car last week. I am looking for another Lab puppy. We don't need it to have papers and don't mind a mix, as long as there is no pit. I know its a long shot b/c most people want a small fortune for their dogs and I completely understand but I'm not looking for a hunting dog....just a pet. If any of you know of someone who has some puppies and they don't want my first born child in exchange, please let me know.

If this isn't allowed or is in the wrong forum, please delete/move.

    Thanks
    Trey

Figured this negated other breeds, just trying to help the man.

Have you considered a rescue lab?

Might be a pretty cool life lesson for the young ladies.

We looked into that today. $$$, house visit, training classes, dog must stay inside, call to vet. I love my animals, but they are dogs. They might spend the night out side from time to time.

Rescue ppl are crazy unfortunately. Sometimes you can just temporarily jump thru the hoops to get it done and they will forget about the dog after a few months. The money that they charge does go to legitimate expenses to run their rescues, no one is getting rich. Sterilization, vaccinations, medical expenses to get some into a healthy adoptable position, food.
I used to foster for one for awhile until I got too busy and have an erratic schedule. Helped place 13 dogs, some of them lived with me for upwards of six months and I normally got dogs that needed to learn how to act if they ever wanted to live in a home.
When I first started they declined me as a foster (at that time over 10 years of veterinary/clinic experience) because I had an intact male lab (self trained and ran to senior level hunt tests)that they deemed irresponsible. I told them that is fine, I am not neutering my dog. have fun killing the dog you reached out to me for that per them desperately needs a home to avoid euthanasia and don’t ever contact me again. MAGIC, I had a foster dog the next day and they never questioned anything from that point on.
Maybe look a little closer into it and give a homeless dog a home. I took one one time, adopted it and it promptly went to live outside on my uncles farm and they never knew any different.

I used to be really involved in lab rescue and I agree, many are crazy, but the vetting process has its merit, IMO, and here is why. I placed over 30 dogs and did some short term fosters as well. I can't tell you how many times we would have a dog come back to us bc the new owners changed their minds. "The dog chewed up my shoes," ok, why? Well I left my shoes on the floor and went to work and left the dog loose in my house. No shit, they do that, put it in a kennel. "Thats cruel," ok, then don't get mad at fido bc you're an idiot. "The dog pissed on the rug," no kidding? They need to go out more than once a day.

The screening process for some rescues is over the top, but I do see the intention behind it. That, and most rescue people that are heavily involved have a screw loose.

I hope you find a pup. If I hear of anything, I'll let you know.
