The first one I ever saw was on a spoil cell right on our side of the Savannah. I was having some safety briefing on top of a dike with some Corp guys.. I saw him hauling ass into a corner, as soon as we finished I ran over there to grab him.. F*** that thing, and I thought it was a bad idea to corner a opossum.

Played Willbrook this past Monday with my son, and I saw one out there on the front nine.

    Armadillo. Over towards Antioch.
Grabbed hold of one by the tail out in OK one time. He'd already made it to the hole. Was like trying to pull a stump out of the ground

Jake hates an armadillo maybe worse than he hates a squirrel

Now on the fox squirrel note, parts of Tennessee and North Carolina have pretty healthy populations of them. We are talking about trying take a little trip for a few days and kill some with the dogs sometime this season

Ha, I didn’t even know we had them in the south until I went to Clemson. Same for ground hogs.

Groundhogs--very interesting. I always thought of them as being north of the I-85 corridor. In particular, being a mountain species.

However, I know of several seen in Laurens county in the past few years. I personally inspected a road-kill at Cold Point a couple of years ago. Know of one or two on our side of Lake Greenwood and one was seen walking around the Laurens public square last month. A friend saw what probably was one in Clinton.

Any groundhog biologists on here? I want to know more about why they are dispersing.

Skunks are another one with a similar range. I grew up around them but my kids had quite an experience when we passed a freshly dead one in the mtns earlier this year.

Before I moved the groundhogs were in northern suburbs of Atl. Armadillos were south of Atl. Always wondered how they would interact.

Played the front 9 at Litchfield CC yesterday and saw 1 before the storm ran us off. Also saw where it looked like miles were digging up around a tee box. Have to go back to play the back 9

I see all 3 species From Anderson to McCormick pretty regularly (theres more armadillos in Abbeville and McCormick than Anderson, imo). Maybe its a certain section of CH that we have brush piles but it seems every time I get on that lake i see a fox squirrel too.

I’m starting an independent study on fox squirrel range and habitat. If you could drop a pin on those brush piles it would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

Agree on the armadillos around abbeville. I have land in Lowndesville and have seen a few there. I kept hearing somthing one morning while deer hunting a patch of planted pines and couldnt ever find what i was hearing then the bastard popped out from under the pine needles. It had tunnels everywhere once the sun got up high enough for me to see a ways.

It's a very strong smell but there's stuff that smells worse for sure.
