A couple of kites (not swallow-tailed) have been circling the area around our house for at least a couple of weeks. We live near Florence. Any thoughts on whether these might be Mississippi kites? Other?

That the Tiger's roar may echo.....
We really only get swallow-tailed and Mississippi kites.
Here's a Mississippi...

Looks like the birds I'm seeing, except they don't appear to have the lighter color on their underbelly area as shown in your picture. Could just be the angle of the sunlight. I don't remember seeing them around here until recently. Thanks!

Learn their call and you will hear them everywhere, even over cities. I have a bluejay that mocks a kite call to scare birds away from the feeder before he moves in to eat.

I never knew blue jays would or had the ability to imitate other birds until I heard about it on a podcast back in the winter. Next time I got out of the truck, I heard a kite call when they would have been down south for the winter. I walked around the corner and watched a blue jay swoop down to the feeder. Started paying attention and I noticed it a lot more. Birds are cool.
