If its frozen youre screwed, if you go too early youre screwed, too late, screwed, etc.
Basically never know unless you go. Youre gonna have a better shot than anywhere in SC though....

I have been to the upper Panhandle of Texas several times. We would try to do an early December hunt for ducks and pheasants. Seemed like there was a freeze up in early December alot. Those little playa lakes can be incredible or froze the hell up.
We went to Kansas in ‘16 and ‘17 to hunt quail and pheasants, both years in December. The first morning we were there in ‘16 it was -15 degrees as the actual air temperature. It warmed up through the week but no waterfowl were seen. In ‘17 it was much warmer and very windy. We saw ponds loaded with birds, but they were in the closed zone that week. Ponds two miles away in an open zone held no birds.
I enjoyed every minute we spent in Kansas. Just go and have a good trip.
Hope to get out there this year with new pup chasing quail and pheasant. If we see ducks, will shoot them too.
