Salty and Beachbird, Let me know if you ever have an opening in one of your hunt clubs. I work near there and it would be a convenient after work hunt for me during the week.

I remember it wasn't uncommon to pull up to my dad's office in the morning and see a box of kittens or puppies at the front door. And we always had an abnormally large number of pets dropped off near our house.

We don't want them. What should we do with them? Let's dump them on the vet. He loves animals. He'll take care of them.

We had 2 show up one summer on a KY property. The place was loaded with good deer prior to their arrival and we saw almost 0 deer that fall. We went around trying to find the owners but the locals knew nothing about them. We went to the only "horse farm", which was just through the woods, but the owner said he had never seen them before. We found the trail where they entered and followed it through the woods. It led straight back to the "horse farm". We visited the guy 4 days in a row to ask questions. On the 4th day, he admitted that they were his and he let them out so he didn't have to feed them any longer. Said he would get them back in and he did.

We were building a pond for a guy years ago and a lady walked up to see if I could help her out. She was a vet treating one of the many horses they had. She wanted to know if I could dig a hole with the excavator and bury a horse. No problem, m'aam. I would gladly shoot it, too I joked. She immediately said "Oh would you?" I was sort of taken aback, but she was dead serious...

Several years ago, when I was getting a pond dug on my property, my neighbor asked me if I could dig a hole for her geriatric horse for when he inevitably died. Months later, she called me in tears and told me her horse was down and couldn't get up. Apparently, something stung or bit him on the nose and he was down and barely responsive. I got the unwelcome task of shooting and burying the poor critter. Even though I hunt avidly and have killed a bunch of animals, I take no pleasure in the killing part. Shooting horses isn't fun for me.

We had a horse growing up. She was a great ride. I don’t see why people hate them so much. I could never just kill a healthy horse. That’s just plain evil. Especially if you get pleasure out of it, but to each their own I guess.

Don’t feed things you aren’t gonna eat , or that you can’t work.
