    Default Vacation-South Africa

Leaving Friday for South Africa. Spending 3 days in Capetown, 3 days at the Sabi Sabi Bush camp and 3 days at the Victoria falls Inn. Plus a few other stops of 1 day each. Was wondering if any of you have traveled there and had recommendations of must see areas. Naturally going to see all the recommended tourist type locations, but have some free time and would possibly like to see some non touristy locations. Doing the guided Safari trips about 4 days. Also flying Thru Doha Airport on Qatar airlines with a pretty long layover if anyone has recommendations there. Let me know.

I'm don't know about the water situation, but I'd watch your back in Capetown...

They had to post this the day before we are leaving. Most of our tours are guided so hopefully we won’t be going into questionable areas. We don’t plan tp go outside the tourist areas now.

I have a world traveling relative who said if I could only do one international trip in my life, go to South Africa. Fly into the north and do the parks then spend a week or more driving south and end up in wine country on the coast. That doesn’t help you much but at least you know you made a good choice to take that trip.

For what? I spent a good amount of time in SA 20 years ago and I managed to not get murder-killed.

    Photo safari or hunting safari?

I'd make time to shoot an animal or 10 if it were me.

Vic Falls is a nice area. I would cross over and see if from both sides- Zim and Zambia. I spent most of my time on the Zambian side because of the political situation back then. If you are the adventurous type, there is a lot to do in Vic Falls. My brother and I rafted the Zambezi- serious rafting trip, fished the upper Zambezi for tiger fish, and bungi jumped off the bridge. The only time we felt unsafe was when we were a bit isolated above the falls and were approached by a bunch of young men in gangs. But I flexed and they ran.

That was 20 years ago. It's become a warzone. It's not safe to go out so much anymore. Not like it was.

Not since the Ebola epidemic. I hear they just leave the bodies to decay nowadays.
