From another forum. Don't know the validity, looking for more info, but figured it would get some riled up. Go.
Around the middle of June Pete Mixon went to his farm in Allendale County. As he began to drive up to his tractor shed he noticed a dead dear about 25 feet off of the highway which had evidently been hit by a car. He also noted that several buzzards were already perched in a few trees and even on top of the tractor shed. He got his tractor with a front end loader and picked up the carcass and then proceeded to move it to the back of his 590 acre tract, where he dumped the deer.
Friday night, July 5th a DNR officer named Brian Hoover showed up at his home here in Hampton where he proceeded to write Mr. Mixon two tickets. One for illegally transporting a deer with a $1090.00 fine, and one for interfering with a hunt in the amount of $200.00. The location where Mr. Mixon dropped the carcass was about 30 yards from his property line which connects with over 1600 acres of land owned by the local Connally family who lease the hunting rights to a group from Charleston.
#1) How did the warden know the deer had been moved? #2) since there is no deer season in June, how could he have been interfering with a hunt? #3) and most importantly, when did it become illegal in SC to move a vehicle killed deer when the carcass is located on your own property......especially during the summer months when deer season isn't open?
