Default ‘Best’ Trigger Pull Gauge ...

    ... for the $$$.

I’ve used the Wheeler gauge and it’s adequate. I’ve tried using two different fish scales and their results are consistent, but a few lbs apart from each other with one being similar to the Wheeler, but more variable.

What’s the next step up without getting ridiculously expensive for just occasional use?

I’ve used the Lyman digital for a few years now. It works for me. I think I picked it up on sale for around $50.

Ingenious, I’m sure, but I could probably get one of my fish scales calibrated close enough to the Wheeler to save me the trouble of collecting all those weights. Thanks for the idea, though.

You can use water instead of the weights. Same principle applies.

    1 gallon = 128 oz = 8.43 lbs

    1/2 gal = 64 oz = 4.17 lbs

    1 quart = 32 = 2.08 lbs

    1 pint = 16 = 1.04 lbs

I've taken tungsten weights (lead causes cancer) and added them to a gem stone scale in 1 oz increments, suspended by monofilament fishing line. This doesn't work at all, but it gives me something to do after I crap my pants from blowing on my bugle (rexcraft) too forcefully.

That would work, goose, but might have to move my reloading bench to over near the sink.

    Thanks.

Two Barrels, FLS, I was hoping for a cheaper option. How much difference do you believe would be seen between the Lyman digital and the Wheeler mechanical one?

The Lyman is accurate. No experience with the Wheeler. Their stuff is usually pretty cheap.

The Wheeler is definitely pretty basic. My playing with my neighbor's one on several different rifles seems to show consistency, but depending on how careful you are with the wire placement on the trigger, the angle of the pull, and stopping as soon as the trigger trips, I've seen several ounces of variation in the results. For hunting purposes it's not a real big deal, at least under 200-300 yds, but past that it might be.

    Thanks.
