    Default transom rod holders

Might be a dumb question but ill ask anyway
I have these two rod holders on my transom.. but having them on the transom like that, they should be good enough to use catfishing right ? I obviously will pull the rod once it hits, but I should be fine to troll with them ?

You could put a rod in them and pull on it?

Like anything in the transom make sure it is sealed very well.

Yea the transom doesn’t move but I’m just curious how much weight it can take? You got a big cat hitting it, could that be enough to do anything? I’m not looking for big trophy cats? Just good eaters.

And I did look at the bolts, and the guy before me did not use any sealant around the bolts ( there is a lot of that on this boat). Would it bad bad to take the bolts out and put some sealant on them, or just drop a bead around the bolt and leave the bolts alone. I don’t want to cause any extra chance of water getting in.

Remove them and any other fittings that are unsealed and seal them. This will also let you see if there has been any water intrusion.

What should I use? I have some 4200 leftover but would that be overkill ?

I am going to open this back up. It was nice out yesterday so I cleaned out the boat and go some things taken care of.

It isn't about the transom, but it is similar and I didn't want to start a new topic.
I never did anything about some rod holders and wanted to see if anyone has done this, or has an opinion on doing this. I measured these rod holders and they will fit on the top of the gunwales, but would the gunwales be strong enough to use these while catfishing. Id keep the drag low, but the top cap does have some flex in it.
I like these because it keeps the rod deep inside, rather than the bolt on type that could easily break off when you get a bite.

It's catfish, not marlin! What you have will work fine!

Saw one like that, just worried that the fiberglass isn’t that strong to hold with all that weight on top of it. The rails are pretty thin.
