Default Outer banks trespassing arrest over beach access

It’s been a while since I’ve been to duck...like 20 years. Anyone been there recently? I don’t know the whole story but damn this seems wrong.

I don’t see the issue. Either the town can try and buy a piece of property for an access, (although I would never sell away my semi-private beach) or the commoners who want to use it can access it by boat. Entitled people piss me off.

Yeah I have to support landowner rights. The town could buy access if they wanted a bunch of tourist. No different than landlocked public hunting land.

Mr Hovey sounds a like a douchebag who knew what was coming.

It was apparently not the first time Hovey took that route, and “the charge and arrest were the culmination of a long-standing dispute between Mr. Hovey and the property owners of the Sand Dollar Shores subdivision,” the town says.

I wasn’t sure about the “deeded to the public “ part... did county originally maintain in the 80s... then turn over maintenance/ownership of walkway to hoa. Got me thinking about the scenario and how often that happens to other public access...boat ramps, walkways. I like the fact some places are harder to reach like north inlet... If one day I can afford to buy a place in debordieu... I would be pissed if they put in a public boat ramp.

This is no different than south Litchfield, Debordieu, Fripp, etc.
    It is basic property rights.

Tax dollars SHOULD NOT be used for re-nourishment and other beach projects in this type of case....

I agree with Cali. You want private beach, you take care of private beach. I know at wild dunes the hoa paid massive funds for beach revitalization

I agree with that too. S. Litchfield private area just renourished their beach and I understand the owners had to pay for it. We go to the beach just north of that gated community and we walk down the beach in front of it but we cant drive in.
