Default Number Of Silencers By State

The Elites don't fear the tall nails, government possesses both the will and the means to crush those folks. What the Elites do fear (or should fear) are the quiet men and women, with low profiles, hard hearts, long memories, and detailed target folders for action as they choose.

What baffles me is that CA is only two behind MS and hot damn TX. Every state should be trying to catch up.
I take an PLB in the shower with me. Can't ever be too safe.

I have no problem with people wanting silencers. None.

I also have no idea why anyone would want one.

Perhaps I might be asked to join some assassin association and then I would. 50+ so far, nahhh and I shoot better than most...

What does that total? Trying to figure out how this compares to the ~400-million firearms in the US.

I love mine because my ears ring all the time and I want to keep what diminished hearing I have left.

I was late to the game and finally made the decision to get one. Now I don't like shooting without one. Most of the folks have never actually shot with one. All they know about them is what they saw on TV, which is totally misleading on how quiet they are(n't). I still use plugs or muffs when shooting with them unless hunting. Most the folks that have tried shooting mine have instantly asked how they can get one. It's not just the sound but the whole percussion blast that is muffled. A 308 sounds like a 22 magnum.

There would be a hell of a lot more in circulation if the government wasn't making it ridiculously slow and expensive to buy one.

I too wonder what the ratio of guns to suppressors is, especially in Texas. Do they just have that many more gun owners?

I’m not paying a 200 dollar tax for something that should be readily available, even though I really would like a few. Feel the same about SBRs and the other NFA items. Name something else someone has to pay a 200 dollar tax, plus submit fingerprints and get background checked, then wait a year, before you can own it. Thank the Lord for the SBA3, otherwise all my guns would be 16 in.

They’re practical on a hunting rifle. A fun novelty on everything else.

I wouldn’t turn down a suppressor on my hd guns.

I was surprised that there were 505 in the District of Columbia? When I worked for NC we had a few for work and every suppressor had a federal permit with it. The permit was required to be with the suppressor at all times. So I would assume that these numbers include suppressors owned by the state or local governments (?).

Suppressors work well with subsonic ammo but with standard rifle ammunition you still had to wear muffs or plugs. More of a "tacticool" item than anything else.

I almost always have a silenced gun on my 4 wheeler, either a .22 rifle or a 300 BLK SBR. If I need to take a quick shot at a pest, I don't have to fumble around looking for plugs or muffs and I don't have to subject myself to more permanent hearing loss.

Far more than tacticool if you value your teams ears, and or do not want to light up a meth house from muzzle flash.

They almost in every scenario make a fire arm more accurate.

They increase projectile speed via "free bore phenomena"

    They reduce recoil.

You know if you hit a target or not via the "report" There is no I think I hit it. You did or didn't and you know instantly.

They act as wonderful flash hiders and do not interrupt your ability to see in low light situations.

They keep I^2 tech from "whiting out" were as a traditional muzzle flash will cause that.

They make teaching new folks whether it is kids or older individuals easier and faster. It is the "boom" that scares people. They become recoil sensitive due to the noise and anticipation. If you can eliminate that or reduce it you stand a far better chance of getting folks use to shooting much quicker.

So while I agree with you in that 95% of LE have no use for suppressors, and that it is a "tacticool" thing for them. There is 5% that do need cans and 99% of the non LE non scatter gun shooting community that need suppressors!

As far as the stats go. I'm fairly sure those are only form 4's. Government cans will be on a form 5 or 10. Those would not be reported in those numbers other wise Virginia alone would have more than all the states combined.

It certainly doesn't represent form 2's

There could be some podunk police agency that doesn't understand how it works and actually form 4'd suppressors, but that would be the minority (or I would hope it would be)

    Yup, he's crazy...

like a fox. The dude may be coming in a little too hard and crazy but 90% of everything he says is correct.

Sort of like Toof. But way smarter.
