    Default Chevy 2500 with 6.0

Got an opportunity to get a 2008 2500 crew cab 4x4 with the 6.0 and 155,000 miles. Quick innerweb search seems like they are reliable, but don't get the best mileage. Anybody with firsthand experience? Anything I should pay special attention to?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Good engines but thirsty. I drove a 2011 for work for a couple years and the headlights were the only issues I had. Other than that, the suspension is stiff as hell.

I've got a 2018. Take your wallet when you go get gas. It's a 36 gallon tank.

I owned one. It lacked some in power, just in pulling my larger boat.. I got by, I liked it. I can say I never really had any problems with it. It was poor gas mileage, but I don't really care.

    HS & JWS,

What mileage were you at when you got rid of them?

PM Killzone on here. He takes care of a bunch of service vans with that motor. I’ve heard him say they were really good motors.

The 2008 6.0 has AFM. Nothing good about AFM.

I have an 07 classic but its a 1500. 170k and never done anything but change the oil and a couple batteries. Those were the last ones without AFM I believe. Mine is a hunting truck basically now.

How do I confirm it has AFM? Is damage already done at 155k?

It has AFM. You can’t confirm any damage, you roll the dice. I have a 6.0 and a 5.3 in here right now getting lifters.

2007 and up have AFM except for the 07 classics. It came with the new body style, at least that’s how it was for the half tons.

Kevin, Correct me if I'm wrong but the iron block 6.0s(LY6 and L96) in the HDs have never come with AFM? I was of the understanding that the only 6.0's with AFM on them were the 'loominum block L76 Vortec Maxs that came in the 1500s?

Anyways for the OP, I have plenty of 6.0 gassers in our fleet...we run every one of them to 300k without any significant failures. And these are run buy guys that can tear up an anvil with a rotten banana....I put everybody that isn't pulling a piece of equipment into a gas truck these days. Prob'ly have over 20 still running currently, ranging from an 04 for my mechanics to several new gas 2500/3500 service bodies. Knock sensors every know and then, oil changes, and front end work is all they need for the most part.
