I would have hated to kill that bird when I shot that nasty creature but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I really had a lump in my throat wondering what was going to happen but the bird seemed to understand the danger and the snake seemed to know that the bird's reaction time were much quicker than his strike. It turned out to be a non event.

    Good stuff man!
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

That is some great camera work.

Could the snake eat that big of bird?

Ha ha - I doubt it but he certainly could have killed it if he could have hit it. The bird (Yellow-crowned nightheron) was very aware of the snake and kept an eye on him the whole time.

Probably thinking if the snake was a little smaller he would eat him.

    Absolutely insane shot!

What lens do you recommend to shoot wildlife and waterfowl like that?
Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

if by "lens" you mean shotgun, i would think a benelli sbe would take care of it. May need some tss for the moccasin, so he won't flop around and accidentally bite you.
