    Default Beans on the Beans

I’m riding around looking at the food plots starving for water and noticed a interesting development.

The QDMA beans seem to already be making pods.

    It has a interesting effect!

The deer have stopped eating them at that point.

If we can hold out till the weekend and get some rain we may be ok

That’s 3 days of this 100 degree weather and it is tough but I have hope!!!

    Interesting!

The deer mowed mine down before the heat wave came. I’ve been keeping the drill full and going back over them.....BUT waiting to do it again when rain is in the forecast.

Haven’t noticed any pods on mine. I’ll have to take another look.

    It has time erasing properties.

If you look at a game cam pic long enough it changes.

I only noticed it on the QDMA beans

    I’m not saying it’s a bad thing.

    I’m quite curious.

It seems to help slow the deer down.

That was 8 acres out of 90.

The others are gone or are not producing beans super neat.

Just curious if anyone had scene anything similar

I planted five acres of partridge pea and ragweed that flowered already.
However, as I discovered the seed came from Pennsylvania..... Huge problem!
Anyway..... Seed will be replaced next year from SE source....

Bingo. Plant realized it wasn't going to make it and switched from vegetative to reproductive mode. I have been scouting waist high corn with tassels on it the past few days...

I've tried to get Partridge Peas several time with no luck.

How do the deer like them? Was there any sort of time delay for them to become acclimated to them or did they just start on them like most other bean plants?

I've noticed some plants mine aren't use to take some time to get our deer excited about them.

    For instance Lab Lab.

Ours didn't immediately take to it.

deer wiped mine out which I figured. I kinda just half ass planted a section about half the size of football field to see how they would grow. They came up good, then well, you know the rest

In all likelihood, you already have them both growing naturally in the woods and field edges.
They love both plants late spring and early summer and they provide high digestible protein.
Late summer, the tannins increase and plants grow on up providing the best brood habitat for the birds.
I plant new areas from time to time and maintain them by discing and or burning in the fall/winter.
Great deer browse and great brood habitat....
